Mini Vacation

I think the cold weather, the snow, and the predicted snow got to me.  I needed to get away if only for overnight.  Sunday I took a vacation.  I wasn’t sure if I would be back today to post since I didn’t take any electronic equipment with me.  I guess the plan to get away began Friday, developed Saturday, and was put into place on Sunday afternoon after talking it over with Kathy.

I thought I would check out the Pottsville Hilton.  Now, getting in is not always easy because it is such an exclusive resort.  The first thing I had to do was check in with the concierge and then go wait for an interview.  It seems like I was not the only one with the same idea for the room was filled with people waiting to be interviewed.  After about an hour I was called to the front desk to give some information before I even saw the concierge.  After all, they had to make sure I could pay for my stay.

Things seemed hopeful when I finally talked with the concierge and found out that she also lived in Hegins.  We were practically neighbors although we didn’t know each other.  She quickly took me back to an interview room where I would have to take some tests to see if I qualified for a stay.  As I said, this is an exclusive resort.

The testing began around 3:00.  I must have passed (or failed depending on how you look at it) the tests because at 7:30 that night I was being shown to a room.  After another hour of questions I was finally ready to settle.  However, since I hadn’t eaten since 10:30 that morning I asked the hostess on duty if I could get something.  She said that she was sorry to inform me that the kitchen was closed for the night.  She did, however, have a brown bag meal that I could have if I wanted.  Yes I wanted.  I dined on a delicious meal that consisted of one small slice of turkey roll nestled between two slices of delicious store bought white bread.  To compliment the meal there was a container of cranberry juice cocktail as well as some orange juice. Dessert came in the form of an apple and a container of vanilla pudding.

After eating I thought I might settle down and just rest.  However, I I did that I would have missed all of the nightlife.  After all, at such an exclusive resort management has quite a few activities planned for those who wish to take advantage of them.  First of all there was the midnight changing of the nitro patch.  I couldn’t sit that one out since I was the one getting the patch.  At 2:00 me roomie opted for the breathing treatment.  How could I sleep when there was all of thins fun going on right next to me.  4:00 was the best.  That is when the vampires came out searching for fresh blood.  Wouldn’t you know I was one of the lucky ones they decided to draw from.  At 5:00 it was time for my roomies in bed bath to get him ready for the day.  I wasn’t treated to such luxury.  I had to clean myself.  Around the same time the night manager came in to talk to me telling me that I would have my own personal overseer who would handle all of my activities.  I could just sit and enjoy my time at the resort until he came in to see me.  It was 6:00 that evening when he came in which was after his day job ended.

He told me that I no longer qualified for staying any longer and that I had to go home.  I called Kathy to come pick me up.  My personal assistant did however say that he would like me to come to his  place of employment and we could play a nuclear game.  I could glow in the dark and walk on a treadmill.  Sounds like fun.  I can’t wait.  That will happen in two weeks.  I guess I just have to wait and see where that will lead.

  1. This is not the exclusive resort you want to spend much time in. I hope you are feeling better and you follow up with all the care recommended. I would miss your stories every week if something happened to you. Sending you thoughts and prayers for wellness.

  2. Well! You had me going there for a minute, and I was thinking “This resort sounds like a dump if you ask me.” And then, I smartened up.

I sure do hope you are okay! I can assure you that the part of your brain which is control of creative writing is just fine. I hope the rest of you is okay, too.

Great, great Slice. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

  3. You certainly put a happy spin on your experience in that vampire filled resort! While you may not have been up to snuff, your brain in working JUST FINE. In fact, I’d say there is serious nuclear energy going on up there. Wonderful writing and SPEEDY RECOVERY.

  4. As Elsie said, this is a resort one would like to keep some distance from. I am thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. As always, I love reading your tongue in cheek view of life and that goes with it. Be well, my friend.

  6. I Thank you. Prayers are always appreciated.

  7. I’m sure the Pottsville Hilton would not like a Trip Advisor review from you!

Great slice and outlook on what is not a pleasant experience. Prayers that all will be good with the rest of your body. Your mind does not have a problem!

  9. I think your sense of humor will help you get better! You had me in suspense as I was trying to reconcile a mini-vacation with what you were describing. Very clever. Blessings on your road to recovery.

  10. Your ability to describe something to us with tongue in cheek while thinking of that treadmill is to be applauded. I was mystified, then the ah-ha moment arrived, and now I’m just thinking of your terrific sense of humor, the only way to live this crazy life we lead. Best wishes in these next weeks!

  12. I was stumped until you got the brown bag meal. Hoping that your stress test goes well and that you get to stay away from your exclusive resort. Wonderful way to slice about a not so wonderful experience! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
