Lights In The Sky

Saturday night we were sitting in out chairs each of us reading a book. Suddenly, the was a loud BOOM. We looked at each other. What was that? It sounded like fireworks.

Let me explain. We don’t have a fireworks display here on the 4th of July. Instead, we have it on the last day of the annual fireman’s picnic. Was that this weekend? If it was, then it was one of the quietest picnics we have ever had.

We live across the street from the park. Usually, from when the picnic begins on Wednesday until it ends on Saturday there is music and noise coming from the park. There is a constant flow of cats into and out of the park. This year it didn’t seem like that.

I guess we should have had some idea that the picnic was this week because we heard a parade going through town on Wednesday. We chalked it up to the fact that the local team did well and the town was celebrating.

We opened the curtain in the dining area and pared our chairs in front of the window. If there were going to be fireworks, we didn’t want to miss them. Because of where we live, we didn’t need to leave the house to see them.

Sure enough, at 10:00 they started. For 20 minutes lights filled the sky over the park. We sat at the window enjoying the show. The cats hid under the bed.

Next year I will need to pay more attention to when the picnic will be held.

  1. Great photos of the fireworks! And how nice that you can see them from your house. We will be driving somewhere on July 4 to see fireworks.

    • The funny thing is that at our first house we lived behind the high school stadium where they held fireworks displays. We were able to see them as well without leaving the house.

Great pictures of your ring-side seats to the big event!

Twenty minutes of fireworks! For once it’s good that they come with the boom, otherwise you might have missed them.

  4. Beautiful photos! You can’t beat the convenience of that location to enjoy the show.

  5. I’m intrigued by the “constant flow of cats into and out of the park” that you dropped in the middle there. I imagine that they are going to the park to thank the firefighters for rescuing them or to provide practice for firefighters to rescue during the 3-day event. I’m sure that wasn’t your intent, but it made me chuckle.

    • I didn’t look closely. Maybe the cats were driving the cars. 🙂

      • OMG–I just realized that was probably a typo and my comment make me look mean. I totally missed that idea. I really did just see parades of cats going to the park and didn’t consider that it might have been a type.

      • Don’t worry about it. There was no offense taken. I should have checked what I wrote before hitting “publish”. Although, living here where there are some feral cats a cat parade into the park could be a possibility. 😄

  6. Fireworks from the comfort of home minus the humidity and mosquitoes. It doesn’t get much better than that! 🙂

  7. Love that you could watch them from home. I love fireworks but hate the crowds that go with them. This is perfect!

  8. A wonderful show sitting at home.

Local tradition lights up the sky, oh my! Fireworks definitely don’t appeal to pets. Many a cat and dog of ours have hidden far from the spectacle…and the sound! The boom says it all.
