Christmas Sijo

A short post to share a Christmas Sijo or two. Yeah, there is a common theme.

The Christmas Tree

The decorated tree lights up the faces of all who see it.
Twinkling lights, cherished ornaments, and a bright shining star.
Bells on the tree start to peal and out jumps the cat.

Just for fun, how about one more.

The Presents

The many gifts strewn around the floor hold no interest.
He will never use them because they were never wanted.
The cat likes the paper that crinkles and a box to hide in.

May this holiday season fill your heart with joy. May the love we give and receive be not limited to just one day but continue through the year. May you gatherings with family and friends be causes for celebration. May we keep in our hearts the true reason we celebrate.

Merry Christmas to all!

  1. Merry Christmas to you. As I was reading your Christmas sijos ( i had to find out what sijos are) all the symbolism of the Christmas items stood out to me. Thanks for the reminder that there is a true meaning of Christmas.

    • Sijos are fun to write. I should have included an explanation of what they were. It is so easy to get up in the hype of the season that we sometimes forget why we have Christmas at all.

  2. Terje

May there be cake and music! May the cats keep inspiring poetry! May there be laughter! May there be peace!

  3. I knew what the cat loved. I used to pick out a new box periodically for our Hadley! She never tired of them. Her favorite winter spot was in a box turned sideways so she could keep her paws on the warm vent. Great fun reading your sijos and visualizing the cat leaping out of the tree.

  4. As always, you provide interesting posts. May your feline friend enjoy the holiday as much as you do, Bob. Regards to Kathy. Love your sijos. I totally forgot about that form so I shall resurrect it. Maybe your one word for 2022 should be fun!

    • Thanks, Carol. Fun does seem like an appropriate word. I think we need to find the fun we have been missing these last two years. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I know you will be enjoying time with your granddaughters.

  5. Beautiful reminder of the reason for the season!
