Cyberspace was teeming with these meetings yesterday. We had one for OCTE, too, and a collaborative Fall conference that many had worked so hard to facilitate, also scheduled for October, fell victim. We’re contemplating some online alternatives to offer something to the members, especially because these times are so very challenging for everyone, and professional organizations should first of all be supportive. We’ll see what happens. (I know you attend NCTE; I wonder what will happen to November.)
I was wondering the same thing. I am not sure I am willing the take the chance of traveling no matter what. I feel that right now we need the support and physical interaction of others, but it is not going to happen.
Your last line holds the heart to your piece- that this is a community that you will miss like family. That is the hard part, when we realize what our various professional communities really mean to us. Aren’t you glad we still have TWT?
I think you all made the right choice. Even if things are open, travel is simpler, and there isn’t a huge resurgence of the virus, I don’t think people will be doing any large group gatherings that they don’t HAVE to do! Sorry for your disappointment

Yes, I am so thankful for TWT.
