A couple of weeks age Kathy and I went on a bus trip to Washington D.C. to see the cherry blossoms. Neither of us had ever been down to see them so when friends of ours said they were going and asked us if we wanted to go as well we said yes. It was quite a trip.
We left Lancaster, PA at 7:30 A.M. for the three hour bus ride. Well, the traffic was horrendous and it took us four hours to get there instead. Really slow moving.
However, once we got there the blossoms were well worth it. I think we hit peak time. We drove by the tidal basin and the blossoms were in full bloom and beautiful. Unfortunately, we could only view them through the bus window because we could not park anywhere to get out and take pictures.
So we drove around a bit and finally got permission to park at a spot across the Potomac from Reagan International Airport. Although not quite as scenic as the tidal basin the blossoms were still something to see.
In these next pictures you can see Reagan International across the river. In the third picture you can see a plane taking off.
From here we boarded the bus and drove to the Lincoln Memorial where we got off. We had 45 minutes to walk the Mall up to the WW II Memorial where the bus would then pick us up and take us to the Air and Space Museum.
Of course it seems like all roads lead to the Washington Monument. Here are some pictures.
We walked by the Lincoln Memorial but didn’t walk the steps to go into it.

The WW II Memorial.
Of course I had to get a picture of Pennsylvania.
As I said earlier, from here we went to the Air and Space museum but I think I will keep that for another post.
I have wanted to do this for years! Thank you for sharing your experience and photos with us. I hope it was a good trip.
It was indeed a very good trip. We enjoyed.
I love all those DC sights but I have never seen them at Cherry Blossom time. Now on my list! Thanks for the memories! 🙂
This is the first time we have seen the cherry blossoms. I highly recommend it. They were beautiful.
Thanks so much for sharing, Bob! Like Fran, I have been to DC many times but never at Cherry Blossom time. Someday…
We really lucked out on the day we went. The weather was perfect, the blossoms were in full bloom, couldn’t ask for a better day.
I love cherry blossoms. I will take my first trip to Washington DC in June. I took some notes.
There is so much to see. Enjoy.
I love the pictures! I teach in D.C., and enjoy the blossoms every year. Glad that you got to enjoy them, too! They are spectacular.
They really were a sight to see.
That looks like a delightful way to spend the day! I was never there for cherry blossom season. Perhaps in the future
It is definitely worth the trip to see the blossoms. Being there with some friends made the day all that more enjoyable.
