A new Door

SOLSC Day 8

In thinking about a new kitchen and planning what we want we concentrated mostly on flooring, cabinets, and counter tops.  While we were at the home builders show on Sunday something caught our eye that we hadn’t really thought about… a new door.

We have two entry doors to our house.  One is in the living room and we never use it.  The other is off the side porch and it is the one we always use.  That is the side where we park.

We had the living room door replaced years ago.  The other door is original to the house now 40 plus years old.  It is a wooden door so you can imagine how well insulated it is.

As we were walking around the Home Builders Show a door caught our eye.  We began talking.  It just make sense, at least to me, that if we are going through the expense and mess of remodeling  we might as well replace the door at the same time?

Here is what we saw.  It is the same door with each side painted a different color.

Here is facing outside,

Here is the inside view.

Well, someone is coming to measure and check things out on today.  Will we get this door?  I am not sure, but I do know that we now will be replacing the old one.

One thing leads to another and another. The door is just the beginning. Happy remodeling!

  2. We are beginning a kitchen remodel, too. And yesterday we went to look at our new back door. It will be a four part slider, and it will cost more than we anticipated (doesn’t everything??, so we needed to see it “in person.” One of our main goals in this project was better access to the back yard, so we feel it will be worth it. Sounds like YOUR new door idea is perfect for your project, too. I am sure you will find just the right one, too!

  3. We are the opposite of handy about household renovation and/or repair. Ironically, my favorite tv binge is HGTV. Always. Home improvement. I will live vicariously through your shopping. 🙂

  4. That is one gorgeous door! Oh that shopping list is getting longer by the minute. I can’t wait until you start on faucets!

Before you know it, you’ll be looking at the side porch with scrutiny. Especially when you get the new door.

  6. Reading through the comments makes it clear that a lot of us have been through remodeling! You will love your new door.

  7. Yes, a new door will keep you warmer and harder to break in. That’s one fine door! I’m sure you will make the right choice. Lots of changes happening around your place! 🙂

  8. I like that door. Just the energy savings as well as the “peace of mind” should easily “sell it”! Remodeling! Aye, yi, yi! It seems to be neverending! But what joy!!!

    • The rep was here today and measured everything. We gave him a deposit so it looks like we are getting a door. My hope is that they can hold it until the kitchen is finished. I would hate to have the contractors bring in cabinets and things and scratching the new door.

  9. Once you decide to remodel one thing, there is often a domino effect. I hope the door is the last domino.
