2017 is over and a new year is beginning. Like many people, I have made resolutions in past years that I never end up keeping. I could do the same this year. Fro example, I could resolve to go to the gym more often. However, since the closest gym is a 30 minute ride from home I don’t see that happening.
I could resolve to quit smoking. However, I don’t smoke. What resolutions can I make that I know I will have a better chance of keeping? After some soul searching and hard thought I have come up with a list of 10 things I know I can do. I know that 10 seems a bit ambitious, but I plan to aim big.
So here goes. Here are my 10 resolutions for 2018 in no particular order. I resolve to…
- Tell Kathy I love her at least once a day.
- Pet any cat that decides to curl up for a nap on my lap.
- Take Kathy out for lunch or dinner at least once a week.
- Have lunch with former co-workers once a month just to keep in touch.
- Take in at least 2 Broadway plays this summer.
- Enjoy a glass of wine with dinner on special occasions (birthdays, anniversary…)
- Cook dinner at least once a week.
- Not feel guilty about eating a slice of cake if there is some in the house.
- Smile at people in passing.
- Be a better person today than I was yesterday.
With these resolutions I think I will have a pretty good success rate of keeping them. Wishing all of you a healthy and Happy 2018.
Happy New Year! This is a great list!
Thanks, Erika. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Happy New Year!
Thank you.
Perfect and doable resolutions! Happy New Year!
These are the kinds of things i can do. Happy New Year.
Great to read your ideas, and I think I love #1 and #10 the most. Happy New Year and best wishes in all you resolved!
Thank you, Linda. Happy New Year to you.
Congrats! You set the gold standard for New Year’s resolutions. Now it will be easier for me to make some “doable” ones for myself. Think “small,” not “big” is the solution! Happy New Year to you and your wife.
Thanks, Barbara. Just as in goals, it is easier to start small and work toward big. Happy New Year to you and your family.
I like your resolutions specially about telling Kathy that you love her and smiling at people. I do that and there will always be people who will not smile back. But with some there will be a moment of connection and that feels good.
Although we might not know it, sometimes a smile just makes someone’s day.
I had to smile at your list. They are all doable. Especially loved the first – I try to do that every day with my husband as well. Happy New Year!
To me that one is very important. Happy New Year.
love the wonderful goals and I too loved #1 the best….I try to tell Dave I love him every day…some days are harder than others 🙂 xo
I think it is those hard days that saying it means the most.
These are great goals! I think it’s wonderful that so many are centered around Kathy. 🙂
Thanks, Stacey.
A great list. I especially #9 is important.
I agree. A smile is free to give and just might brighten someone’s day.
I usually don’t do resolutions for the mere reason that I can’t keep them, but I love your list and find it very achievable. Smiles and lunch/dinner out – no problem. A glass of wine only on special occasions – hmmm I think daily is better. Happy New Year to you and Kathy!
I figured why go for goals I know I won’t keep. Keep it simple.
I like your list format! And think I would have to prioritize 1, 5, and 10. Happy New Year to both of you!
I know #5 will be done since I already have the tickets. Happy New Year.
You have set excellent intentions for this year – the kinds that will be joy to make happen. Wishing you and Kathy health and fun at 2018!
Thank you, Terje. A Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family as well.
