Health Update

March 2016 Challenge, Day 2

Last week I mentioned the chest problems I was having and promised to post an update.  Well, here it is.

On Thursday I had an appointment at West Reading Cardiology Associates with Dr. Olivera Gojkovic.  After reviewing the information that my family doctor, Dr. Hafiz, sent down, examining me, and talking with me she told me I would need a cardiac catheterization.  This did not come as a surprise.

Chances are good that I will need a stent.  Dr. Hafiz did notice a problem with my left ventricle.  It wasn’t supplying enough oxygen when called for during exercise.  Just another case of supply not meeting the demand.

Anyway, a date was set up for the procedure.  The earliest they have an opening is this Friday.  I must report to the hospital by 6:30 A.M.  This would not usually be a problem even though it is an hour and fifteen minute drive,

However, listening to the weather forecast they are calling for chance of snow Thursday into Friday, one to three inches.  To be at the hospital for 6:30 would mean leaving the house at 5:00 which would mean getting up at 4:00.  Even when I was working I didn’t get up until 4:30.

We will watch the weather during the week to see if things change.  We just might end up going to Reading Thursday and spending the night.  Kathy would probably spend Friday night as well.  Don’t know how our beasties will like being alone two nights in a row.

Anyway, if things go well I will be discharged on Saturday.  Chances and pretty good that I probably will not post or do any commenting on those two days.  Hopefully I will be back to the challenge on Sunday.

In the meantime, I still have a post for tomorrow.

Praying for you, Bob, that all goes smoothly and you’ll be back to your writing. Praying for Kathy as well, I’ve been in that situation before.

  4. Thanks for the update, I’ve been thinking about you and wondering. Yes, I think getting there the day before when snow is in the forecast is a smart thing. Take care and follow doctor’s orders and Kathy’s orders too.

    • When have I ever not followed Kathy’s orders? Don’t answer that. Being in Reading the night before means many good places to pick from for dinner. Will pass on the wine though.

  5. Thanks for the update and warm thoughts and prayers for you, Kathy and the critters! Safe travels and speedy return to the “new normal”.

  6. I’m glad you told us what’s happening now, and best wishes that you are fine by Saturday, no matter the weather and the motel. And I’m so glad you found this out in time! That’s the important thing!

  7. Wishing you well, Bob. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. You write with such a calm attitude. I think I would be nervous wreck! But writing has a way of helping us cope. Take care!

  11. Thank you for the update, Arjeha. You write so calmly of this, try to keep that peace as you’re rolled into the O/R. You will be breathing as good as the healthy youngster you are in spirit soon enough. And we’ll be here waiting to here all about it upon your return,

  12. Hi, Bob. I’m glad I know you by name now. Thank you for the thoughtful comments on my blog. I wish you all the best. I’ll be thinking of you. My father has two stents. I’m thankful they have the procedure.

    • It is amazing what they can do these days. I am thankful for the procedure as well. My wife had one put in sixteen years ago and it has made a big difference in her life.

  13. Praying! Thank you for bravely sharing here!

  14. I heard that awful forecast for Friday morning. You know how things go around the Midstate when it snows. You’re better off to stay overnight in Reading so you’re close.

Holding you in my thoughts and wishing you the best on Friday, Bob.

  15. Best wishes for the weather. Prayers for you and Kathy. Keep calm and trust God…seems you already know that.

  16. I’ll be thinking of you on Friday, Bob. I’ll have a word with the weather gods and see if this storm can be postponed.

  17. Sending best wishes! Just go the night before so you don’t have to worry! Make a day of it and try to do something fun just to distract yourself. We will be thinking of you and wish for a quick recovery! Take Care!
